Wedding Cake Card Box-DIY Step by Step

The list goes on…and on…and on… on all the minute details surrounding your wedding. One you may not have thought of was your card box! There are a lot of chic and pretty options of pre-made card boxes, but I wanted something with a personal touch so I decided to make mine! I made a wedding cake card box. To give it a little more of a personal touch and a pinch of cuteness I used childhood pictures of my husband and I as the cake topper!

Card Box Topper

You will need:

  • 3 round craft boxes in different sizes (small, medium, large)
  • Paint
  • Glue gun
  • Strong Glue
  • Ribbon
  • Scissor/ box cutter

Extra items:

  • Rhinestones
  • Laminator

Directions:

  1. Choose your look. I went with white since that’s the color that most wedding cakes are, but doesn’t mean you have to stick with that! I used sky blue ribbon to serve as the “icing” border since that was the color of my bridesmaids’ dresses.
  2. Next cut out the bottom of the small and medium craft boxes, but leave a rim of about inch around.
  3. Cut out the tops of the medium and large craft box lids leaving a rim of about an inch around.
  4. Cut a slot (big enough for a card to pass through) in the small craft box lid.

5. (Optional) Cut a slot on the face of the medium craft box long enough for a card to pass through. I did this because I thought the slot on the small box wouldn’t be big enough for some cards.

6. Glue the tops onto their respective boxes. You want this to hold, so I suggest using a strong glue like Gorilla Glue.

7. Glue the small box onto the medium lid and the medium box onto the large lid. Allow for glue to dry.

8. Paint boxes your choice of color. This may take a couple of coats. Let dry for 24 hours.

9. Cut two strands of ribbon. One for the base of the small box and one for the base of the medium box.

10. Using your glue gun glue the ribbons around the small base and medium base. This will dry fairly fast. (As you can see in my picture I also added a lace trim)

11. (Optional) Add rhinestones to card slots for extra flair 😉

Cake Topper

I got a lot of compliments on the cake topper. People thought it was pretty cute.

  1. I found two pictures of my husband-to-be and myself (one of him in dress clothes and me in a white dress) and made a colored copy with printer paper.
  2. I assembled the pictures together.
  3. Then laminated it.
  4. To add stability I glued a sliver of cardboard on the back with the glue gun.
  5. Then I glued it to the top of the card box.
