DIY Wedding Table Assignment Board for the Crafty Bride

There are so MANY things to organize when planning a wedding. One of the last things you’ll do is your seating chart. There are two main ways to communicate to guests where they’ll be seated. One way is the traditional placement cards and another newer way is a table assignment board. I chose to do the latter. I felt like it would be less tedious and more fun for me as I enjoy being crafty. Below is a step to step guide on how to recreate my DIY wedding table assignment board.

Full disclosure, my dad did help me with most of the hardware, but I took care of the vision and decorative aspect. I’m going to separate the directions into two parts. Hopefully, you are good with framing or have a handy man father like me 🙂

Building the frame

You will need:

  • 2 inch wood grain molding, 24” X 22”. My dad cut this wood into four pieces to create a rectangular shape.
  • Wood polish (the color of your choice)
  • Polyurethane (Poly coat) This will give it that glossy look.
  • Heavy duty staple gun
  • Decorative radiator screen
  1. After the wood is cut, staple the pieces on the back to create the frame shape you want.
  2. Coat it with the wood polish until you achieve the shade you want. Let dry.
  3. Apply an even poly coat onto the frame. Let dry.
  4. Staple the decorative radiator screen onto the back of the frame.

Decorating the frame: This is the part that I did!

You will need:

  • Acrylic paint
  • Fake flowers (I literally got mine from the dollar store.)
  • Skinny ribbon
  • Decorative tags ( I found mine at Michael’s. They were sturdy too!)
  • Fine point sharpie
  • Glue gun
  1. Gather fake flowers and arrange them on opposite corners of the frame. We had pink flowers at my wedding, so I decided to stay with the theme. Don’t forget to use the leaves, its adds a nice effect. After you figure out how you want them arranged, use a glue gun to secure them.
  2. Using acrylics paint decorative flowers in the corners opposite of the glued flowers. (optional)
  3. Before writing on the decorative tags, arrange them onto the frame so you have an idea of what arrangement will work best.
  4. Using the fine point sharpie label the table number with the names of the guests. I hand wrote everything. To protect the privacy of my guests I obscured their names.
  5. Using ribbons approximately 2-3 inches in length thread them through the holes in the tags and holes in the screen. To secure them you can tie knots or bows. I prefer the bows. Its functional and pretty. Best of both worlds!

I hope this post inspired some of you to make your own DIY wedding table assignment board. Looking for more DIY wedding ideas? Check out my wedding page where I share other projects that I used in my own wedding! https://lifewithbecks.com/category/wedding/

I found a radiator screen with the same design as the one we used. See link below:
